New media and Universal Health Care

On the topic of how New media is related to Health care it is surprising to know how much hospitals are using it these days. Many hospitals are keeping in contact with their patients through Facebook  and Twitter. My mother who is a physician told me that she has been forced to use new media in her everyday work life. In order for her to change over prescriptions and calculate what certain patients should have in their IV’s she has to use new media.  My mom then had to buy a new phone so that she could keep up with her residents who had already bought an application for what certain conversions equaled to. She felt as though she was behind because it took her so long .Her residents were doing these conversions faster than she could. New media at first seemed very generational and never seemed to transcend to older adults but with the fast paced society many adults have to convert to new ways such as my mother. Not only is new media directly effecting how she treats her patients it is also how new information is being passed down. Facebook and Twitter are both communication highways for hospitals around the county, using them for advertising, statistics and much more. With the recent debates about universal health care new media can alter people’s views with giving them false statistics and skewed propaganda. Even the littlest things such as people’s Facebook status or tweets can lead people who are ignorant on Health care to believe stupidity.
